A black and white Christmas

I always liked childhood trips into Liverpool when it was Christmas as the council did a pretty good job brightening the place up (even when we lived in a monochrome world) A few years previously my mum like the little girl shown would have spent a Christmas or two in an Anderson bomb shelter but knowing my family I'm sure she would have enjoyed the warmth of the season just the same.

Christmas time in Birkenhead and Liverpool was very enjoyable as kids as Christmas grottos used to out do each other every year, the town centres unless you go by train or bus now are not car compatible anymore and car parking is an expensive joke, the out of town shopping centres, like Cheshire Oaks, the Croft Bromborough and Chester Greyhound centre are for cars so are the flower nurseries Carr lane Hoylake with the tat you would have bought in Liverpool centre, Liverpool one comes under the go by bus or train if it wasn't for that fact it is just 200 metres or so from the Planet light ship, it would never get visited by me, I have to admit the out of town shopping are swinging and the town centre shopping I don't have a clue, things change and those old pics Thud bring back memories, especially with the Crosville bus behind the Liverpool bus, apart from the pics being in black and white, my memories are still in full colour

The bottom picture, is it Lewis's? Those stone-clad pillars look familiar.

Thought that was Blacklers, Bemberg Rayon ? 5s/11d a pair, looks about 1960s when we still had the age of innocence and the EU scam was to come along with the start of decimal robbery of the country, Third one down looks like London rd

Beautiful photos, miss England so much at Christmas time. I get the feeling the big holiday here is really TG. We're headed to NZ today for some sun and surf and lamb chops on the barby

Lovely.

For us it was Stratford - an exciting ride on the 721 Green Line bus followed by a visit to Santa in the department store...wish I could remember the name of the store, is there anyone out there also an East-Ender, and of a similar vintage?

Ou sont les neiges d'antan...
